The Golden Shadow
Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.
– Hebrews 10:35
Practice:
Make a list of all the people that you find truly great and that you admire.
Write down the qualities that you appreciate the most in these people.
What you have is a likely list of your own projected positive material that you have been hiding in the shadows.
The people you have identified may well have these qualities, but while you might be a great fan of these people, other people are not, or they don’t see the qualities.
So what is the difference in perception between you who appreciate those people and others who do not?
You see the other person as great because you subconsciously see your shadow positive qualities in that other person. Other people don’t see it because they do not possess those qualities.
You are increasing that person’s greatness by projecting your greatness onto them at the same time as you are losing or giving away your greatness by projecting it away from yourself.
You can start to reclaim this greatness back to yourself by practising the 3-2-1 process:
3: Identify the projected material, the things you excessively love about that person. So, write a list of all of the things that you really like about that person (things seen in them, i.e. third person).
2: Face it, talk to it as a second person. Return to your list and say out loud, for example: ‘I really like you because you are charismatic’; ‘I love the way you openly communicate with me.’
1: Talk as it, i.e. in the first person. So, for example, you may say, ‘I am a charismatic person’; ‘I am good at openly communicating with other people.’
